KEVIN UPDATE 02/17:
This boy is officially avaulable for adoption!!!! He is healed from his wounds, vaccinated, neutered, and heartworm negative! We did updated x-rays with our vet and he said kevins fracture is calcified and he is using it with no pain so he advised against any further surgery! Kevin has full use of his leg and you would hardly tell it was ever broken!
From Kevin's foster momma:
"Kevin is an energetic young dog who loves to run and play. He is great with humans of all ages. He is very sweet and loves attention whether pets or tossing a ball or toy. He gets along with other dogs but prefers to be the dominant dog and would do best with a more submissive dog. He has a mild issue with resource guarding for meals and treats but the problem is easily solved if he is fed separately in his crate. He is crate and house trained and is working on not pulling while on a leash. He needs a secure fence."

Kevin was found on the side of the road hit by a car. He was brought to the shelter where he was evaluated and looking for rescue. How could we say no to this face? Our president literally dropped everything and rushed over to the shelter to pick him up and take him straight to the ER.
The prognosis isn’t that great. Kevin has a pelvic fracture, left femoral head fracture with displacement, right femoral fracture, and some serious road rash from being dragged where the tissue is already necrotic
The vet is guessing Kevin is only 7-9 months old So young to deal with such a tragic accident. The surgeon came in this morning to give a consult. Unfortunately, the right leg really needs to be amputated. The tissue in the road rash is so necrotic, he’s at risk for being septic and it’s too late to repair or save the tissue. Bone, muscle, and ligaments are exposed. The left leg is a big question mark and we have about 24 hours to make a decision. He will either get a full amputation or an FHO.
So that being said, Kevin has an extremely long and difficult recovery ahead of him. He will either be a double back leg amputee OR have to manage, and rehab through an FHO on one leg while missing the other leg. Right now we just know if Kevin will fight, we will fight.
